Eligibility:  U.S. citizen, 18+ years old, amateur and professional

Entry eligibility: Digital color, no film or black and white, up to five original photos that have not previously won in a contest of more than 1000 entrants or with $500 or more total in prizes, no pets or captive animals.

                Ten $75 prizes to five amateurs and five professionals

                Grand prize winner and ten $75 prize winners will also have their winning photos published in Encyclopædia Britannica Online

                Finalist certificates will be awarded to 25 amateurs and 25 professionals.

Description:  Submit up to five photos taken anywhere in the world. Images of pets, captive animals, or non-wild animals are not allowed.  Animals should be in their natural habitat and photo taken without interference to wildlife or the environment. Posed photos are not permitted.   Use of a flash is prohibited in any situation where a flash might cause harm to any animal. Photos cannot be altered except for minor lighting and color corrections. Except for dust specks, content removal or cropping is not allowed. Each photo must be accompanied by a listing of the equipment used, the camera settings, and a brief description of the story behind the photo, including the approximate date of the photograph.

Additional Info:  The sponsors of the Witness to Nature Photo Contest™ are Encyclopædia Britannica and Ohio Distinctive Publishing, Inc.  In addition to publication of the winners' photos in Encyclopædia Britannica Online, photographs may also be published in other Encyclopædia Britannica products (e.g., their print edition, their electronic editions, and their other encyclopedias). Also, winning photographs will be displayed online at the Witness to Nature Photo Contest™ website, and may be used elsewhere to promote the Witness to Nature Photo Contest (e.g., in print, on websites, and in newsletters and other literature/advertisements). Whenever the photos are displayed/published, the photographer's name will appear along with the photograph.
